About Me
My Fitness Journey
Since my children were small, I have found myself gradually getting more interested in the fitness industry. Like many other people, I joined a gym so I could get stronger, leaner and lose a little body fat.
The guy who did my induction was late and did not seem interested in striking up a conversation. But the gym was nicely spaced out and clean, the locker rooms were in good condition and the equipment looked up-to-date.
The trouble was, I felt lost. I didn't particularly know what to do and how to do it. I did not want to ask for help because I felt I should be able to lift up a weight and put it back down again.

I found this particular gym environment a little "clicky" and unfriendly. None of the staff would ask how I was doing or just say hello - this would have made all the difference.
After around a year or so of going through the motions of banging out some sort of programming in my head of what I should be doing, I gave up and cancelled my membership.
I felt a failure because I had wasted a year; and because I never made much progress and spent a tonne of cash paying out for membership every month!

Where I Am Now
Over the last coupleof years, I have decided to take more control over aspects in my life I can do something about: my mind and my body.
I spent much of my time reading and watching videos, listening to podcasts, trying to learn and train. I began investing in some gym equipment at home. I learnt how to train my body and enjoyed the buzz you get by lifting weights. I also enjoyed running and getting into "the zone" that way.
In 2016, I realised in one of those 'lightbulb' moments, I wanted to change my career path and my life. I crammed in lots of study and sleepless nights and went on to pass my Level 2 Fitness Instructor and my Level 3 Personal Trainer exams.
It took a lot of effort to get out of my comfort zone... Taking exams in my 40s! I felt like I was back at school!
In October 2016, I decided after much deliberation to leave the job I had done for 11 years and started Phoenix Fitness.
With some tweaking and adjustments, I managed to convert part of my house into a working home gym studio.
People have started training with me and enjoying the experience.
There is nothing better than watching people progress week after week!
